Volkswagen is about to retire the V8 TDI from the Touareg, so it is marking the occasion with a special model, dubbed the V8 Last Edition.
The swansong is limited to Germany, where only 400 units, priced from €104,361 ($122,971) before options, will be sold starting August 17.
Available in Pure White, Malbec Red, Silicon Gray, Antimony Silver, Deep Black Pearl and Oryx White Pearl, the Touareg V8 Last Edition is offered in the R-Line equipment level with high-gloss black wheel arches and diffuser and plain black door handles. The ‘Last Edition’ badging adorns the B pillars, displaying the production number as well (X/400).

An option package is available for the Touareg V8 Last Edition and it consists of LED headlamps, Innovision Cockpit, adaptive chassis and 21-inch Suzuka black wheels.
The 4.0-liter V8 diesel produces 415 HP (421 PS / 310 kW) and a massive 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque from just 1,250 rpm, which are channeled to the 4Motion all-wheel drive system via an eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine is equipped with two turbochargers, with the second one kicking in at over 2,200 rpm.
This helps improve fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, with the SUV returning 27.7/35.1/31.8 mpg US (8.5/6.7/7.4 l/100 km) in city/highway/combined in the NEDC cycle, and emitting 195 g/km of CO2.
The Touareg V8 Last Edition sprints to 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in 4.9 seconds and has a top speed electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h).
Following the demise of the V8 diesel, the Touareg R will act as the range-topper of the series, with its 3.0-liter V6 TSI gasoline engine and electric motor. The PHEV powertrain develops a combined 455 HP (462 PS / 340 kW) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque.
