Driving a car through deep water is never a good idea, unless perhaps it is an off-roader with big mud terrain tires, lots of ground clearance and a snorkel. Despite this, people around the world frequently test their luck in flood waters, sometimes with dire consequences.

These particular videos were recently filmed in Shanghai, China and show a white Tesla Model 3 being driven through flood waters with seemingly very little fuss.

In the first clip, the electric sedan appears to drive into a parking lot and in the process, drives down a small slope and has its entire front end covered by water. It is a truly bizarre sight, yet despite the obvious risks of driving a car in such conditions, the Tesla goes on, seemingly without a worry in the world.

Had this been a normal internal combustion engine car, it would have, in all likelihood, hydrolocked and suffered extensive damage. On the surface, the Tesla seems fine but that doesn’t mean that everything is peachy. It’s also entirely possible that some water found its way into the cabin during the Model 3’s water escapades.

Back in 2016, Elon Musk famously tweeted that the “Model S floats well enough to turn it into a boat for short periods of time,” adding it gets “thrust via wheel rotation.” In the years since, we’ve seen quite a few videos of Teslas being driven in flood waters and, while the EVs may be able to survive, that doesn’t mean doing this is a good idea.
