The 2021 Range Rover Velar has just been unveiled and benefits from a series of new technologies and powertrain options.
In the UK, those looking to purchase a new Velar will, for the first time, be able to select the P400e that features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a 105 kW electric motor and a 17.1 kWh lithium-ion battery located under the floor of the trunk. This powertrain delivers a total of 398 hp and 472 lb-ft (640 Nm) of torque and is able to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 5.1 seconds. The plug-in hybrid Velar’s battery can be charged to 80 per cent in 30 minutes via a fast DC charge point and the SUV also offers an all-electric range of 33 miles (53 km).

Land Rover has also introduced its latest-generation 3.0-liter Ingenium straight-six engines into the Velar lineup. These consist of the diesel D300 and the petrol P400, both with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The former produces 296 hp and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque and can hit 60 mph in 6.1 seconds. By comparison, the Velar P400 is rated at 394 hp and 405 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque and has a 0-60 mph time of 5.2 seconds.
The 2021 Range Rover Velar family is now also offered with the company’s latest 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder in D200 form and also complete with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.
The other major update for the 2021 model year is the fitment of Land Rover’s latest Pivi and Pivi Pro infotainment system.
“The Range Rover Velar’s name and bloodline dates back to the code name of the original Range Rover prototypes,” executive director of product engineering at Jaguar Land Rover, Nick Rogers said in a statement. “It has been fifty years since the introduction of the pioneering Range Rover in 1970, and now every family member is electrified with our awesome plug-in hybrid technology. Electrified powertrains and cleaner mild hybrid diesel engines mean the Velar is an even more efficient and sustainable option for our customers.”
