Fabspeed has become the latest company to launch an aftermarket exhaust system for the Chevrolet C8 Corvette – and is sounds great.
The tuning company’s exhaust upgrades start with the sports car’s standard catalytic converters being replaced by sport cats that help to improve airflow while being wrapped in military-spec heat blankets manufactured from Kevlar. By simply replacing the catalytic converters with the sport cats, which cost $2,795, owners benefit from an extra 6 hp and 6 lb-ft (8.1 Nm) of torque.

Then comes the new exhaust system itself. Dubbed the Valvetronic Maxflo, it sheds 20 lbs (9 kg) from the stock item and results in an extra 14 hp and 15 lb-ft (20 Nm). The stainless steel exhaust is priced at a hefty $3,995.95 and can be paired with a set of new stainless-steel headers from Kooks. These headers alone add 20 hp and 26 lb-ft (35 Nm) to the C8 Corvette.
If the sport cats, Fabspeed exhaust and Kooks headers aren’t enough to satisfy the aural demands of some customers, the catalytic converters can be replaced by bypass pipes to further shed weight and improve performance. Of course, driving a car without catalytic converters can (depending on where you live) get you in quite a lot of trouble, so this isn’t something we’d recommend.
