First Ever Ford F-150 EV Confirmed For 2022, Will Have Two Electric Motors And Over 450 HP

Ford has released a new teaser video for the F-150 EV and announced plans to build the truck at the new Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Michigan.

The groundbreaking for the center took place today and is part of a $700 (£540 / €592) million investment into the company’s historic Rouge Complex. Once complete, the facility will employee 300 people and begin construction of the electric F-150 by mid-2022.

The company didn’t say much about the upcoming pickup, but noted the model is “undergoing tens of thousands of hours of torture testing and targeting millions of simulated, laboratory and real world test miles.” Ford also confirmed the truck will have two electric motors which “deliver more horsepower and torque than any F-150 available today.”

That means the electric F-150 will be even more powerful than the 2020 F-150 Raptor which has a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that produces 450 hp (336 kW / 456 PS) and 510 lb-ft (691 Nm) of torque. Ford also promised the model will have the “fastest acceleration” and the “ability to tow heavy trailers.”

The company went on to say the electric F-150 will have a “giant front trunk” which adds additional cargo-carrying capacity. The automaker also said the model will improve with age thanks to over-the-air updates.

In a statement, Ford executive chairman Bill Ford said “We are proud to once again build and innovate for the future here at the Rouge with the debut of our all-new F-150 and the construction of a modern new manufacturing center to build the first-ever all-electric F-150.”

His sentiments were echoed by incoming CEO Jim Farley who stated “F-Series pickups are the backbone of work and productivity across the country. And now we are preparing to build a fully electric version of America’s most popular vehicle, and it will be a seriously capable, purpose-built tool for serious truck customers.”
