Hongqi H9+ Makes Official Debut As The People’s Republic Maybach Wannabe

The Hongqi H9+ was first caught on camera back in August in a Chinese showroom, prompting us to assume that a public debut would soon follow.

Fast forward about two months and the H9+ is now resting its stretched-out wheelbase at the 2020 Beijing Auto Show, featuring an extra 7.9 inches (20 cm) compared to the regular H9 sedan. The model on display has a dual tone cream white / burgundy red exterior.

So just how big is the H9+? An extra 20 cm (7.9 inches) would put its wheelbase at 3,260 mm (128.3 inches) long. Its overall length is roughly 5.34 meters (210.2 inches), a little over 10 cm (3.9 inches) less than a Mercedes-Maybach.

There’s clearly more than enough room inside to stretch your legs behind the front seats, while also enjoying a tall glass of champagne in one of the two captain’s seats. We’re not sure however about all that red inside, especially on the carpeting – it might be overkill.

Speaking of colors, the way they split the dual tone aesthetic on the outside is a bit curious. Usually, carmakers will make the split somewhere above the shoulder line, or right on it. The color combo on the H9+ however splits well below that point.

According to CarNewsChina, the Hongqi H9+ gets a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine as standard, whereas the regular wheelbase variant also comes with a 2.0-liter turbo as its entry-level power unit. The V6 produces 283 HP and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque.
