Nissan teased the Z Proto yesterday and now Nissan’s senior vice president for global design has apparently shown the car’s rear end.
In an Instagram post, Alfonso Albaisa said “Projects with huge meaning do not come every day, on top of that, few projects trigger immediate ‘slide show’ memories like [the] Z.” He went on to note is involvement working on the 350Z and promised there is “more to come.”
While Albaisa didn’t say anything about the image, it shows a stylish coupe with a flowing roof that continues all the way to the rear end. Below is an upright fascia with subtle curves at the outside edge. We can also make out slender taillights which recall those used the 300ZX.

Elsewhere, we can see a familiar greenhouse and Z badging on the rear pillar. The latter, of course, is a nod to the original Z.
Additional details are hard to make out, but the sketch shows pronounced rear fenders and an apparent shoulder line that cuts through the door before terminating at the vertical door handle.
The Z Proto will be unveiled on September 15th and is expected preview the upcoming production model. Little is known about the car at this point, but the rumor mill has been working overtime ever since prototypes were spotted last October.
The latest rumors suggest the car will use an updated version of the FM platform rather than an all-new architecture. That’s still up for debate, but the model is widely expected to use a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces around 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS). Of course, we’ll likely find out more later this month.
