New McLaren 765LT Is Even Quicker Than Originally Estimated, Beats Senna To 186 MPH

McLaren is gearing up for the first deliveries of the new 765LT supercar, the lightweight and more powerful variant of the already ballistic 720S, with the carmaker now confirming that it’s even quicker than originally anticipated.

The new McLaren 765LT is officially capable of a 0-124mph (200 km/h) in a mind-bending 7 seconds – 0.2 seconds faster than the original target figure- while the quarter-mile is just a matter of 9.9 seconds, beating once again the company’s estimates.

Of course, we’ve grown to expect such figures from a carmaker like McLaren, especially when they decide to slap the fabled ‘LT’ badge, which stands for ‘Long Tail’, on their latest model. 0-60 mph comes in 2.7 seconds (0-100 km/h in 2.8), while 0-186 mph (300 km/h) is a matter of just 18 seconds flat.

That means that the new McLaren 765LT is faster to 186 mph than the lighter and more powerful Senna by 0.8 seconds, which should not be that big of a surprise given the latter’s extreme aero agenda.

The new McLaren 765LT is powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that produces 754 HP (765 PS) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque and is paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Thanks to McLaren’s “comprehensive engineering programme of weight reduction”, the 765LT is 80 kg lighter than the 720S, tipping the scales at 1,229kg (2,709 lbs) dry.

MSO’s New Personalization Themes

McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has also developed a number of new paint techniques to allow 765LT owners “a whole new level of personalization possibilities”.

One of those new possibilities is the Strata theme, a three-color design inspired by a city skyline that requires 390 hours of hand painting and finishing. The base color of the Strata theme here is Azores Orange, which is then fused with Memphis Red and Cherry Black as you move towards the front end of the vehicle. The brake calipers are also part of the color blend, with the front ones finished in Volcano Red and the rear ones in Azores Orange.

Another theme is the full Visual Carbon Fiber body, of which there’s already a demonstration model produced (as seen in the images) in response to customer inquiries.

McLaren will produce just 765 individually numbered examples of the new 765LT, with the 2020 production run already sold-out and the expressions of interest for 2021 already exceeding the number of cars available. The first deliveries will begin at the end of September.
