Audi’s first-ever RS-badged car, the RS2 Avant, was only made as a wagon and that’s a real shame since the Audi 80 platform on which it was based also offered the Coupe.
There’s no doubt that an RS2 Coupe would have made a fantastic successor to the legendary Audi Quattro road car. It probably would have been an even better car than the RS2 Avant given the Coupe’s slightly shorter wheelbase and lower weight.
But enough of “coulda, woulda, shoulda”; the reason we’re bringing this up is because Prior Design has announced a limited-run widebody aero kit for the Audi Coupe with RS2 optics. While these are merely renderings, it is more than obvious that the German tuner has a winner on its hands.

Just look at the fantastic transformation this body kit will make. The fruit of a collaboration between Prior Design, JP Performance and Dr. Crazy, the widebody package will be released later this year to mark to coincide with the Audi Sport Quattro rally car’s 40th birthday. The muscular body kit is inspired by current RS models and has been embellished with various elements that are reminiscent of the original Audi Quattro.
The package features wide bodywork extensions at the front and back, new rocker panels with blade attachments, a custom hood with Quattro-inspired air intakes over the radiator grill, and more aggressive bumpers. The one at the front sports a spoiler, a more prominent spoiler lip, and side cup wings, while the one at the rear gets a new rear skirt complete with a striking diffuser insert including a thick tailpipe on each side.
Feel free to imagine what you would put under the hood, though the Audi S2 Coupe’s 2.2-liter 20V turbocharged five-cylinder engine boosted to match the RS2 Avant‘s 311 HP (232 kW / 315 PS) appears the perfect choice – unless you can source an actual RS2 engine, that is.
Matching the Audi Quattro’s anniversary, Prior Design will only build 40 widebody aero kits for the Audi 80-based Coupe. The start of sales will be announced before the end of this month.
