Britain’s first-ever fully electric hypercar is a truly spectacular machine. It’s got four electric motors, a total of 1,972 HP (2,000 PS) and 1,254 lb-ft (1,700 Nm) of torque, a 200+ mph top speed and a 250 mile (400 km) range.
Purchasing one means parting with more than $2 million (£1.7 million), with Lotus only building a total of 130 Evija units.
This is the type of car you can never get enough of, which is why we’re excited to see this new film featuring a development test vehicle breaking the laws of physics on Lotus’ 2.2-mile Hethel test track.

The footage shows Gavan Kershaw, director of Vehicle Attributes at Lotus, talking about key elements of the Evija project. The film does a good job of providing us with detailed insight into the Evija, just as the car is set to take center stage at this week’s Salon Prive Concours d’Elegance.
Kershaw also discusses the progressive deployment of power and torque through the hypercar’s five drive modes. In Range mode, you get a maximum of 1,000 PS (986 HP) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque, to go with a switch from all-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive. City mode meanwhile provides you with greater power control, decreasing the level of regenerative braking.
Switch to Tour mode and the vehicle will automatically decide between all-wheel drive and rear wheel drive, delivering over 1,400 PS (1,380 HP) with torque-vectoring. Then there’s Sport mode, which pumps power to 1,700 PS (1,676 HP) and 1,700 Nm (1,253 lb-ft), while Track mode unleashes the maximum 2,000 PS (1,972 HP), with the highest level of torque-vectoring. Track mode is also available with the Evija’s Drag Reduction System (DRS) on request.
“Lotus cars are very nimble, inspiring great confidence when being driven, and the Evija is no different to that,” explains Kershaw.
Unfortunately for future buyers, deliveries for the Evija have been pushed back by 5 months, as the first cars will now arrive mid 2021.
