This year’s LA Auto Show that was supposed to take place November 20-29, 2020 has been officially cancelled and will now be held on May 21-31, 2021. The press days will take place on May 19-20. Confirmation of the move comes a day after reports about the six-month delay began to circulate online.
“We are appreciative for the continued support from the LA Convention Center, the City of Los Angeles and all of our automotive partners,” LA Auto Show chief executive Lisa Kaz said in a statement. “Memorial Day Weekend is a fantastic time for enhanced outdoor activations and product debuts. The LA weather creates exciting new opportunities for a spring show.”

By moving the event to May, the LA Auto Show will now slot between the New York Auto Show scheduled for April 2-11 and the Detroit Auto Show planned for June 19-26. While having these three major events so close together could prove to be a blessing for car fans given the lack of auto shows in 2020, many automakers will probably opt against making appearances at all three events.
Nevertheless, the president of the Greater Los Angeles New Car Dealers Association, David Ellis, says the re-scheduled auto show will provide a much-needed boost to local dealerships.
“We are extremely excited for the May dates of the LA Auto Show. The Memorial Day Holiday is always an important time for our dealerships,” he said. “We eagerly anticipate the excitement the show creates amongst consumers, who look forward to experiencing the newest vehicles live and in-person.
The 2021 LA Auto Show will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Admittedly, there is no telling what state the world will be in next May, so it’s entirely possible that these new plans for the event could change as has happened so often these past few dramatic months.
