BMW‘s fully electric iX3 crossover will launch in the UK next summer in Premier Edition and Premier Edition Pro specs, priced from £61,900 ($80,355) and £64,900 ($84,250) respectively.
To put that into perspective, the X3 upon which it’s based, starts from £41,485 while the larger and more luxurious X6, from £60,835. However, it is likely that BMW will eventually add more affordable versions to the range.
Thanks to the iX3, BMW’s X3 range will become the carmaker’s first nameplate to be offered with pure-electric drive, a plug-in hybrid system, as well as gasoline and diesel options, at least in European markets.
In the UK, you can choose between four exterior metallic body paint colors (Carbon Black, Mineral White, Phytonic Blue and Sophisto Grey) and two exterior trim colors (Brushed Aluminum or High Gloss Black). You also get 20-inch wheels (Black), an automatic tailgate, adaptive suspension and a panoramic sunroof – all this as standard on the iX3 Premier Edition.
You can also have your Vernasca leather in a choice of four colors, to go with the Sensatec dashboard, sun protection glazing, ambient lighting and electric seats. Meanwhile, wireless phone charging, heated front seats and BMW’s latest driver assistance tech (Driving Assistant Professional, Parking Assistant, BMW Live Cockpit Professional) are all optional extras.
As for the more expensive iX3 Premier Edition Pro, it adds a head-up display, the Harman Kardon surround sound system, Gesture Control, Parking Assistant Plus, Automatic high-beam assistant, Comfort access and Lumbar support. You can even get it with the BMW IconicSounds Electric, developed in collaboration with Hans Zimmer.
The BMW iX3’s drivetrain consists of a 80 kWh battery pack and an electric motor with 282 HP and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. It can get you from zero to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 6.8 seconds and offers 285 miles (460 km) of range on a full charge as per the WLTP cycle.
