Earlier this year, Citroën unveiled the all-electric Ami light quadricycle, a vehicle that can be driven without a driving license in the EU from 16 years old on average (14 years old in France).
Since the opening of orders on Citroën’s website, more than 1,000 French customers have secured their Ami EVs, whether by buying it outright or renting it on the long term. Now, the tiny electric vehicle enters a new phase as it will soon join the Parisian Free2Move carsharing fleet.
To mark the occasion, Citroën has unveiled 20 Ami quadricycles in a unique design inspired by the most iconic neighborhoods of the French capital. Designed for the city and its inhabitants, the all-electric Ami (French for “friend”) will serve Parisians’ mobility needs from mid-September as part of the PSA Group-owned Free2Move carsharing fleet.

Initially, more than 100 Ami vehicles will join the service, with Citroën claiming the diminutive EV will “facilitate urban mobility and reconcile city dwellers and cars.”
The Ami is a two-seat, ultra-compact vehicle measuring 2.41 meters (94.9 in) in length, 1.39 meters (54.7 in) in width and 1.52 meters (59.8 in) in height. Significantly shorter and narrower than a Smart EQ Fortwo, the Citroën Ami weighs in at just 485 kg (1,069 lbs).
That’s including the 5.5 kWh battery which provides a range of up to 70 km (43.5 miles) and can be charged in 3 hours on a conventional 220 V socket using the on-board electric cable. The Citroën Ami can also be charged at a public terminal or Wall Box using a suitable cable.
The battery powers a 6 kW (8 HP) electric motor which enables the Ami to reach a top speed of 45 km/h (28 mph). The base price in France is €6,000 ($7,100) including VAT but those who don’t want to buy it outright can opt for a 48-month rental contract with €2,644 ($3,128) down and a monthly payment of €19.99 ($24).
For occasional use, driving the Ami as part of the Free2Move carsharing service comes cheapest with a monthly subscription of €9.90 ($11.70) plus €0.26/minute ($0.31/min) of use.
