Nissan is about to lift the curtain on the Proto Z as the event will be streamed online at 8:30 p.m. EDT tonight.

Previous teasers have revealed a few interesting details about the model including Z badging on the rear pillars, which is a nod to the original sports car.  The model is also slated to have LED headlights, a long hood and taillights that are reminiscent of the 300ZX.

The interior is a bit more mysterious, but we can expect a driver-oriented layout. Purists will also be glad to know that the 370Z successor will be offered with a six-speed manual transmission as well as a proper handbrake.

It’s believed the new sports car will be based on an updated version of the FM platform, which is shared with several other Nissan and Infiniti models. However, the 3.7-liter V6 engine will likely be replaced by the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 found in the Infiniti Q50 and Q60 Red Sport 400.  It produces 400 HP and 350 lb-ft (475 Nm) of torque, which would make it around 50 HP and 70 lb-ft (95 Nm) more powerful than the 370Z Nismo.

A rival to the likes of the Toyota Supra, the Proto Z obviously won’t break any records but it should be one of the most engaging sports cars in the segment.

Of course, it’s worth remembering the Proto Z is expected to be a pre-production prototype or a concept, and reports have indicated the production model might be a year or two away.
