The Ford Edge is starting to show its age, so the company has given the model a modest makeover.
While it falls short of a facelift, there are some pretty big changes in the cabin. We mean that literally and figuratively as the 2021 Edge adopts a newly standard SYNC 4A infotainment system with a 12-inch display.
It replaces the previous SYNC 3 system and is significantly more advanced as it features a larger display as well as optional navigation, voice recognition technology and cloud connectivity. The latter allows for internet searches for queries such as “Find me the best Thai restaurant.”

The new infotainment system also supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well as multi-tasking as users can split the 12-inch display into the multiple windows. The system also features a digital owner’s manual which is searchable and includes how-to videos.
Additional changes are limited, but the 2021 Edge features a new ceramic interior trim option on the Titanium Elite as well as a new cloth option on the SEL. The crossover also gains two additional USB ports which brings the total up to four.
Exterior changes are hardly worth mentioning, but include a revised color palette with newly available Carbonized Gray and Lithium Gray. The crossover also benefits from an “extensive wheel lineup for increased choice and customization.” Ford didn’t go into specifics, but noted there are nine different choices ranging standard 18-inchers on the Edge SE to optional 21-inch gloss black painted aluminum wheels which are optional on the performance-oriented ST.
Since the updates are relatively minor, engine options carryover and include a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder that develops 250 hp (186 kW / 253 PS) and 275 lb-ft (373 Nm) of torque. The Edge ST, on the other hand, has a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 pumping out 335 hp (250 kW / 340 PS) and 380 lb-ft (515 Nm) when using premium fuel.
