The latest-generation Hyundai Elantra has just been announced for the Australian market where it will be sold as the i30 Sedan.
The car retains the same striking exterior and interior design as the U.S. model, which means a very angular and striking appearance with sharp lines, prominent body creases and an altogether sophisticated and premium look. We think referring to it as an i30 isn’t accurate, but the name will ensure it is familiar with local buyers, even though it looks very different to the i30 hatchback.

Sitting at the base of the 2021 i30 Sedan range is the Active model. This variant is powered by a 2.0-liter MPi four-cylinder that produces 157 hp (117 kW) and 140.8 lb-ft (191 Nm) of torque and is offered with a choice of a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. Key standard features of the i30 Sedan Active include a leather-appointed interior, a rear-facing camera, rear parking sensors and wireless Qi smartphone charging.
The next trim level is the Elite, which features the same engine but is sold exclusively with the six-speed automatic. Compared to the Active, it has extra features like dual-zone climate control, a 10.25-inch infotainment system, Bose eight-speaker audio system, DAB+ digital radio, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist, and push-button start.
The two flagship models are the i30 Sedan N Line and N Line Premium. Both feature a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 201 hp (150 kW) and 195 lb-ft (265 km/h) driving the front wheels. The base N Line is offered with the choice of a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, while the N Line Premium is sold exclusively with the dual-clutch.
Like other Hyundai models, i30 Sedans heading to Australia feature a market-specific chassis tune to suit local road surfaces.
Prices for the 2021 i30 Sedan Active start at AU$24,790 (US$17,474) for the manual and AU$26,790 (US$18,888) for the automatic.
