The all-new Mazda BT-50 has gained two new body styles in Australia, the Single Cab Chassis and Freestyle Cab Chassis.
These two chassis cab models will join the existing Dual Cab versions from November 1, 2020 as the BT-50’s workhorse variants. Available in 4×2 or 4×4 configurations, the BT-50 Single Cab and Freestyle cab feature a six-speed automatic transmission as standard.
Opting for the 4WD drivetrain allows customers to opt for a six-speed manual and also brings greater all-terrain ability thanks, in part, to a standard locking rear differential.

As with the 2021 BT-50 Dual Cab, power comes from a 3.0-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel making 188 HP (140 kW / 190 PS) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque from 1,600 to 2,600 rpm for “exceptional pulling power”.
Compared to the previous-generation BT-50 chassis cab models, the new Single Cab Chassis and Freestyle Cab Chassis are up to 50 kg (110 lbs) lighter, which, in combination with the new engine, contributes to fuel efficiency gains of around 20 per cent. More specifically, the automaker quotes a fuel consumption of 8 liters/100 km (29.4 mpg US / 35.3 mpg UK) on the combined cycle.
Mazda offers a single, well-equipped trim level for the two chassis cab models named the XT. Highlights include 17-inch alloys, LED headlights, power-adjustable side mirrors in body color, black cloth upholstery, air-conditioning, power windows and carpet floor covering.
Standard tech includes Adaptive Cruise Control (for automatic models), Cruise Control (for manual models), a 7.0-inch full-color infotainment touch screen, Wireless and USB Apple Carplay, Android Auto (USB), Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, DAB+ digital radio and Reverse Camera.
As for safety, the comprehensive standard equipment includes eight airbags, Attention Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitor, Emergency Lane Keeping Assist – Overtaking, Automatic High Beam, Hill Descent Control, Hill Launch Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Lane-keep Assist System (automatic models), Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and more.
Prices in Australia start from AU$36,550 (US$25,800) for the BT-50 Single Cab Chassis and AU$40,050 (US$28,260) for the BT-50 Freestyle Cab Chassis, plus on-road costs. These prices do not include the Mazda Genuine Accessories Standard Alloy Tray, which costs an additional AU$2,470 (US$1,740) and AU$2,300 (US$1,620), respectively.
