Genesis has left the door open for a new G80 Sport model.
The latest-generation G80 is set to land in dealerships across the United States from late October. It is significantly more luxurious than the previous-generation model and Genesis could broaden its appeal with a sportier variant.

During a recent interview with Motor Trend, president and chief executive of Genesis Motor North America, Mark Del Rosso, implied that such a model could see the light of day.
“Let your imagination run wild. Stay tuned on Sport. You never know,” he said in response to a question about a potential new G80 Sport model.
The previous-generation G80 Sport came outfitted with a 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine shared with the likes of the Kia Stinger GT and Genesis G70. This engine pumped out a total of 365 HP and 376 lb-ft (509 Nm) of torque which was sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. We were quite fond of the car when we reviewed it last year, although there was no hiding its age.
The new Genesis G80 comes standard with the automaker’s updated 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that now delivers 375 HP and 391 lb-ft (530 Nm) of torque. If Genesis is to make a new G80 Sport smodel, it will need to modify this engine to give it some added grunt. In addition, the Korean automaker would conceivably fit it with some more aggressive body panels to differentiate it from lesser variants.
