Former Audi exec Jorge Diez will take over the mantle of design director for both SEAT and Cupra on December 1st, after having served as head of SEAT exterior design between 2011 and 2014.
He’s worked for both VW and Audi in Germany, returning to the latter in 2014 in order to work on the Ingolstadt brand, as well as Lamborghini and Ducati as director of concept design. During his first stint at Audi, he created models like the second-gen TT and the first gen A7 Sportback.
As for when he first joined SEAT, he was one of the creators of some of the carmaker’s most successful models, including the third-generation Leon, the fourth-generation Ibiza and the Ateca, SEAT’s first ever proper SUV.

“Jorge Díez is one of the most talented designers in the automotive industry. His signature is on many of our key cars from the last decade, such as the Leon, the Ateca and the Ibiza, and it’s great news that he’s returning to SEAT. His international experience, the inspiration from Barcelona and the values of the SEAT and CUPRA brands will be reflected in the models we will be launching in the coming years,” said SEAT and Cupra president, Wayne Griffiths.
This is SEAT’s second major signing after promoting Cupra chief exec Wayne Griffiths as boss, with Diez stepping in for Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, who left the Spanish carmaker in favor of Renault back in July.
In 2019, Diez also served as VP of Mitsubishi Motors Design in Europe.
