New 2021 BMW M4 Convertible Spied In Frozen Blue

Following the unveiling of the new 2021 M3 and M4 Coupe as well as the regular 4-Series Convertible earlier this week, our spy photographers have snapped new pictures of the M4 Convertible. This one was adorned in a frozen blue paint, with a second white-colored example of the range-topper snagged on a transportation truck. [Updated 10/2/2020]

The high-performance model will follow in the footsteps of the M4 Coupe but adopt a retractable soft top as opposed to the hardtop featured on the current model. This change should help to reduce weight as well as make the model look better when the roof is up.

Besides the retractable soft top, the car has a massive twin kidney grille which is flanked by large air intakes. We can also see sporty side skirts, aerodynamic mirror caps and stylish wheels that are backed up by a high-performance braking system with golden calipers.

Out back, the convertible has a unique trunk with an integrated spoiler featuring a third brake light. We can also see a four-tailpipe exhaust system and a sporty diffuser.

Like the M4 Coupe, the convertible will have a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that is available in two different outputs. The base model will produce 473 hp (352 kW / 480 PS), while the Competition variant will crank things up to 503 hp (375 kW / 510 PS).

The coupe will be offered with a six-speed manual and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Customers will also be able to opt for rear- or all-wheel drive, with the latter available exclusiverly on the more potent Competition variants. These choices will presumably carryover to the convertible, but nothing is official as of yet.

BMW hasn’t said much about the drop top but, when the M3 Touring was officially announced, they confirmed it will be introduced sometime next year.
