Surely a BMW M5 Competition cannot beat the Ferrari 488 Pista in a good old quarter-mile sprint now, can it?

Actually, this is no stock Bimmer, but one tuned by Evolve Automotive, which, in return for around £6,000 ($7,825), gave it a meaty 800 PS (789 HP / 588 kW) and 950 Nm (701 lb-ft) of torque at the crank of the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8.

That represents 175 PS (173 HP / 129 kW) and 200 Nm (148 lb-ft) more than the stock M5 Competition, which does the 0-100 (0-62 mph) in 3.3 seconds, the 0-200 km/h (0-124 mph) in 10.8 seconds and can hit up to 305 km/h (190 mph) with the optional M Driver’s Package.

While the super executive sedan has an eight-speed automatic transmission and an M-tuned xDrive all-wheel drive system, the 488 Pista has a seven-speed DCT and rear-wheel drive. At about 1,400 kg (~3,000 lbs), it is around half a ton (~1,100 lbs) lighter than the stock M5 Competition.

With 720 PS (710 HP / 530 kW) at 8,000 rpm and 770 Nm (568 lb-ft) at 3,000 rpm produced by a twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter V8, the Italian supercar takes as little as 2.85 seconds to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill. The 200 km/h (124 mph) mark is achieved in 7.6 seconds and it will run out of breath at 340 km/h (211 mph).

Trying to guess the winner just by looking at the performance of both cars is anything but easy, but we will tell you this: one of them simply demolished the other one during the quarter-mile sprint, and things weren’t that different in the rolling race, in the comfiest powertrain setting. Still, the other one did ace the second rolling race and the brake test, so that’s a solid hint right there.
