A new all-electric powersports company by the name of Volcon has just been announced and it intends to launch a motorcycle and two ATVs.
The company’s first electrified vehicle is an off-road motorcycle dubbed the Grunt. Volcon hasn’t stated how large the battery pack of the Grunt is, but says it can be recharged in two hours from a normal household outlet and is also swappable.
Coupled to the battery pack is an electric motor that produces 50 hp and 75 lb-ft (101 Nm) of torque, which should allow it to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 6 seconds. The electric motorcycle will have a range of up to 100 miles (160 km) and sports a very rugged and go-anywhere design. Prices start at $5,995.

The second model being developed by Volcon is known as the Stag. It is a small, two-seat ATV rated at 225 hp and 300 lb-ft (406 Nm) of torque that will hit 60 mph in 5 seconds and max out at 70 mph (112 km/h). It has a quoted range of up to 150 miles (241 km) and appears to have what it takes to deal with some treacherous terrains thanks to the adjustable Fox suspension.
Last, but not least, is the Volcon Beast. This is a four-door, four-seat ATV with 450 hp and 600 lb-ft (813 Nm) of torque. It will hit 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, reach a top speed of 80 mph (128 km/h) and has a targeted range of 150 miles (241 km). It too has a Fox suspension with optional Live Valve active technology.
“Volcon was quickly funded with an oversubscribed seed round, confirming the enthusiasm for the category,” Volcon chief executive Andrew Leisner said in a statement. “Having grown up riding with my father and continuing that tradition on motorcycles and UTVs with my daughters, I am excited to help lead the evolution of the powersports industry with electric vehicles that enhance the outdoor experience while reducing our environmental footprint for future generations. Thanks to companies like Tesla, the electrification of the powersports industry is no longer a question of if, but when, and Volcon is positioning itself to play a substantial role in this rapidly changing environment.”
Volcon intends on starting deliveries of the Grunt electric bike in the spring of 2021, while the Stag and the Beast will follow in late 2021 and 2022, respectively.
