The almighty 7.3-liter Godzilla V8 engine will not find its way into the Mustang, Ford has confirmed.
The Blue Oval introduced the Godzilla V8 roughly a year ago for its Super Duty trucks. It is the largest displacement V8 petrol engine currently in production and pumps out 430 hp and 475 lb-ft (644 Nm) of torque. Moreover, it is already proving to be popular in the aftermarket, so much so that Whipple has released a 3.0-liter supercharger for it that increases output to 700 hp and 700 lb-ft (949 Nm) of torque.
As Muscle Cars and Trucks discovered in a recent interview with Pat Hertrich, the engineering supervisor on the Godzilla V8, it won’t be used by other Ford products.

“I’m not aware of any plans for (Mustang). This is a truck engine for commercial use,” Hertrich said.
While the engine won’t be used for anything other than Ford’s Super Duty pickups, the fact that it is now being sold as a crate engine has already prompted hot rodders to use it for some wild projects.
“If you look on YouTube you can see this engine put into people’s personal vehicles,” Hertrich conceded. “As an engine person, to me, that’s very exciting. But that’s not the business reason for us having the engine. It’s not the design intent. It just happens to lend itself well to things like that.”
“When you’re putting out a gas engine this big, you kind of know that’s going to happen. People are going to look at (the Ford Godzilla V8) as options for performance. Anybody who is into muscle cars and drag racing will start immediately thinking big blocks and big power… but the prime objective here was developing a solid and reliable heavy duty truck engine,” he added.
Those who want to acquire the Godzilla V8 for a personal project can purchase it from $8,150. Included in that price is the intake and throttle body, left and right exhaust manifolds, production oil pan/cooler, ignition coils and wires, production flex plate, shipping and storage cradle, and factory lift brackets. The engine also comes with a warranty.
