Hyundai has released the first teaser images of the upcoming 2021 i20 N before it hits the market in the first half of next year.

The South Korean automaker has been spied testing the hot hatch feverishly at the Nurburgring in recent months and these two photos show that it will follow a similar design philosophy to its sibling, the i30 N.

Up front, Hyundai’s designers have created larger air intakes while also applying a bright red splitter. The hot hatch is also pictured with red ‘N’ branded brake calipers and a set of angular 18-inch wheels. It also includes red side skirts and a rear spoiler stretching off from the roof. The example pictured has the N division’s customary Performance Blue paint but includes Phantom Black on the skirts, pillars, roof, and wing mirrors.

All told, the forthcoming i20 N looks much more aggressive than rivals like the VW Polo GTI and the beloved Ford Fiesta ST.

Hyundai has yet to confirm powertrain specifications for the i20 N. With that being said, it is expected to feature a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing approximately 200 hp. This engine will be coupled to a six-speed manual transmission powering the front wheels through a limited-slip differential.

All signs point towards the hatch being sold exclusively with a stick shift but as the i30 N and Veloster have recently received an optional eight-speed dual-clutch, it’s possible the i20 N will follow suit at a later date.

Stay tuned to CarScoops for the i20 N’s unveiling in the coming weeks.
