Kia is set to launch its KiaCharge public charging service in Europe, aimed at owners of the Korean brand’s battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

The service offers a streamlined one-payment solution through a single card and an app, and is said to feature the largest charging network in all of Europe, with around 160,000 charge points spread across the Old Continent, including AC and DC connectors.

By using eRoaming, Kia owners can charge their vehicles in Europe without the need for additional contracts with other providers. Payments are made through a single monthly invoice.

“The availability and suitability of public charge points remains a perceived hurdle for many would-be EV buyers. By introducing a comprehensive and easy-to-use public charging service for our customers, accessible from a single account, Kia is making EV ownership a viable option for many more car buyers,” said Kia Motors Europe COO, Emilio Herrera.

KiaCharge customers can access the DCS network using a single radio-frequency identification (RFID) card or the app. They get real-time price information, but also a range of different tariffs based on their driving needs – this should help low-mileage users pay for individual charges without having to get a monthly subscription.

The service will make its debut in seven European markets initially, starting with Italy, Poland and Spain, followed by Austria, France, Germany and Switzerland.

Note: The same service will be available to BEV and PHEV Hyundai owners, bearing the name Charge myHyundai.
