Low Mileage 1989 Lamborghini LM002 Seeks Wealthy New Owner

The Urus has been a runaway success for Lamborghini, with 10,000 units been sold in just two years since it launched. The Italian automaker had ventured off-road long before the Urus, though, with the LM002.

The LM002 is probably the rarest and most exotic off-roader in history, as Lamborghini built just over 300 units between 1986 and 1993. Its design is timeless and prices have skyrocketed in recent years.

The example getting auctioned off here through Bring a Trailer is a 1989 model with just 2,500 miles (4,000 km) on the clock. The exterior is finished in black and features an open rear bed, hood intakes, brush guards front and rear, a full size spare tire, a diamond-plated bed and rear jump seats. It’s a clean, utilitarian look, aided by factory 17-inch tires with 345/60 Pirelli Scorpion rubber.

By late 1980s standards, the interior is pretty luxurious, boasting off-white leather bucket seats for all four occupants, white door panels and center console, a leather steering wheel, wood trim accents throughout, air conditioning, power windows and a custom stereo system with a Kenwood CD player mounted in the headliner console.

Its 5.2-liter V12, which had been sourced from the Countach, is rated at over 400 HP, sent to the wheels via a ZF five-speed manual gearbox. The LM002 can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in a little under 8 seconds, which was pretty quick for its era, especially considering that this is a 3-tonne vehicle.
