McLaren has just unveiled the Elva Gulf Theme by MSO at Goodwood Speedweek, in honor of the carmaker’s renewed relationship with the Gulf Oil brand.
The two companies recently signed a new partnership reflecting a historic union that goes back to the 1960s, when both brands started getting into motorsport. Initially, Gulf branding appeared on McLaren’s Can-Am, Formula 1 and Indy cars between 1968 and 1973.
Fast-forward to the 90s and you could see the McLaren F1 GTR rocking a Gulf livery at various racing events, including at Le Mans.

Thanks to this new deal, McLaren customers can now commission Gulf-liveried cars directly through MSO, such as that McLaren Senna GTR LM 825/2 car presented last month, and of course, this Elva roadster, whose name and styling takes us back to sports racers of the 1960s.
“The McLaren Elva Gulf Theme by MSO is a striking celebration of both McLaren’s history in sports car racing and our new partnership with Gulf Oil. McLaren Special Operations is committed to pushing the boundaries of the ‘art of the possible’ and projects like this showcase the increasingly extensive range of personalisation options we can offer customers – in this case, enhancing the authenticity of the livery by incorporating Gulf brand logos into the design,” said MSO exec Ansar Ali.
With deliveries for the Elva starting this year, MSO has already completed the specification for an initial batch of cars – only 149 examples of this 815 PS (8-4 HP) twin-turbo roadster will be available to customers, who can now opt for a bespoke Gulf theme if they happen to fancy it.
