The Senna is McLaren’s most track-focused street-legal supercar, and while its crazy aerodynamics help with downforce, its wings and spitters do add drag as well. With that in mind, is it possible that a stock 720S can run down the quarter-mile quicker than a Senna? Let’s find out.
Eager to see how the two pair up, Brooks from the DragTimes channel on YouTube brought them together for three races at a drag strip in Florida. The conditions were not ideal as the surface was damp, meaning both cars encountered some traction issues.

Speaking of traction, it’s worth pointing out that the Senna was equipped with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires, which require a lot of time to warm up and were cold during these races. By comparison, the 720S had Toyo R888R tires that are better suited to the cold and damp conditions.
All things considered, perhaps it should come as no big surprise that the McLaren 720S walked away in not one, not two, but all three of the races as the Senna simply couldn’t put its power to the ground. Had the conditions been dry, perhaps the Senna could have used its power advantage more effectively and the outcome might have been different.
Both the 720S and Senna are powered by McLaren’s 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, but whereas the 720S is capped at 710 hp and 578 lb-ft (770 Nm), the Senna has an advantage with 789 and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque, while also being lighter.
