The results were pretty surprising, as the new AMG GT Black Series posted a 1:43,3 lap time, which is not only two tenths faster than the all-mighty Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR, but is also 4.7 seconds faster than the AMG GT R Pro.

The difference in speed between Black Series and GT R Pro is simply mind-blowing, showcasing just how much work AMG’s engineers have put into the new king of the AMG GT lineup.

On the outside, the new AMG GT Black Series gets a unique active aero package that looks very similar to the actual GT3 race cars; Combined with an almost flat floor, AMG claims that the new Black Series can generate 400 kg of downforce at 155 mph (250 km/h).

The coilover adjustable suspension with adaptive dampers is specific to the AMG GT Black Series, featuring new and unique damper valves for a rapid and precise modulation and three modes to choose from; Comfort, Sport, and Sport Plus.

The twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine has been extensively modified to the point it’s been given a new internal code (M178 LS2, if you must ask), featuring dry-sump lubrication, new camshafts, exhaust manifolds, bigger turbos, and an altered firing order. It also makes 720 HP (730 PS) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque and is connected to a reinforced seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is one serious track weapon, so much so that we can’t wait for it to show up at the Nurburgring and see what it can do over there.
