This Jeep Grand Cherokee doesn’t look different, yet beneath the white paint finish, it sports ballistic protection straight from the factory, and it is a milestone vehicle, being the 1,000th of its kind to have been produced by FCA Mexico.
It features NIJ-IIIA armor, including 19-mm (0.75 in) thick multilayer glass with polyvinyl inserts, an anti-grenade underbody plate, engine protection, reinforced suspension to help it cope with the added weight and run-flat tires. FCA’s local branch says that the SUV is capable of withstanding rounds from a 9mm Parabellum, 22 LR, 38 Special, 357 Magnum and 44 Magnum.

Based on the Limited Luxury Advanced 4×4, the Grand Cherokee Armored has a starting price of 1,850,900 pesos ($86,118) and is equipped with bi-xenon headlights, LED DRLs, 20-inch alloy wheels and electrically adjustable side mirrors. It also features two-zone climate control, Nappa leather seats with electric adjustment at the front, LED interior lighting, a 7-inch instrument cluster, 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system, Alpine premium audio, smartphone integration, a heated steering wheel and a whole bunch of other gear.
It also has a number of safety systems such as traction control, trailer stability control, blind spot monitoring, brake assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, tire pressure monitoring, park assist with reversing camera and front and rear sensors.
Powering the Grand Cherokee Armored is a 5.7-liter HEMI V8. It pumps out 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet (529 Nm) of torque, and is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and Quadra-Drive II four-wheel drive system with Selec-Terrain.
