Being objective is one of the main rules of journalism, and perhaps we would have given Audi a free pass on this one.
However, they did feel the need to dedicate a small chapter to the sound produced by the E-Tron GT in the latest teaser.
Now, we are very much aware that even when an electric vehicle does produce an audible tone it can’t and won’t sound as good as an ICE-powered car and that Audi’s sound engineers had a big task ahead of them, but the end result is anything but exciting.

Like all zero-emission rides, the E-Tron GT features the statutory acoustic vehicle alerting system (AVAS). This is mandatory to alert pedestrians of the EV’s presence, yet in this case, it is embedded into what the company calls “a broader acoustic spectrum”.
Bear with us a little longer as we delve into some of the details of the technology, which includes a standard loudspeaker up front that, in this case, can be joined by a secondary unit at the rear. The latter is part of the ‘optional sound package’, which, alongside the two loudspeakers inside, “provides an emotional sound experience”, according to Audi.
Created on the computer, in the lab and in the car, the progressive electronic sound is constantly remixed by the on-board control units based on preset variables such as the speed or throttle position. Furthermore, owners can use the drive selector to set the intensity of the sound played through the speakers mounted in the rear doors.
Audi is quite proud of the outcome, and while it didn’t exactly get to our hearts, maybe you are more receptive. So, without further ado, this is how the E-Tron GT sounds like; oh, you’re going to need headphones, apparently, “for the ultimate sound experience”.
