Cupra has released more details and an extensive photo gallery of its first standalone model, the 2021 Formentor SUV coupe.

The compact model will be available with a wide range of seven powertrains (including two plug-in hybrids) with outputs from 150 PS (148 HP) to 310 PS (306 HP). The lineup will be split in two categories: Cupra Formentor (with an output below 245 PS / 242 HP) and Cupra Formentor VZ (with 245 PS or more). VZ comes from the Spanish word “Veloz”, meaning “Fast” or “Speed”.

Available from launch, the range-topping engine is a 2.0-liter TSI turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine making 310 PS (306 HP) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. Mated as standard to a seven-speed DSG transmission and 4Drive AWD, the Cupra Formentor sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds, topping out at 250 km/h (155 mph).

From 2021, Cupra will also offer two eHybrid PHEV powertrains. Shared with the Cupra Leon, the top variant combines a 150 PS (148 HP) 1.4-liter TSI engine with an 85 kW (115 PS / 113 HP) electric motor and 13 kWh battery, for a total of 245 PS (242 HP) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. The second PHEV model offers a combined 204 PS (201 HP) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. Both plug-in hybrid Formentors offer an estimated EV driving range of 50 km (31 miles).

The rest of the engine lineup consists of a 2.0-liter TDI diesel rated at 150 PS (148 HP), a 1.5-liter TSI petrol also making 150 PS (148 HP) and offering a choice of manual or DSG transmissions, and a 2.0-liter TSI petrol delivering 190 PS (187 HP).

Regardless of the powertrain, the Cupra Formentor comes with the Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) system and progressive steering as standard. Additionally, models with more than 150 PS (148 HP) feature a rear multilink suspension as standard.

The Formentor also packs the latest connectivity and safety technology, including a new MIB3 infotainment system with a 12-inch screen, 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit, and driver aids like Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control, Travel Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Side and Exit Assist, and Emergency Assist.

The Cupra Formentor will arrive at European dealers this autumn. For now, pricing is only available for the top 310 PS model, which starts at £39,830 in the UK and €43,953 in Germany.
