Toyota Yaris Cross Heads Down Under With AU$26,990 MSRP

Toyota will officially open the order books for the Yaris Cross in Australia on November 2, but they have already announced the pricing of the small crossover.

The range kicks off from AU$26,990 (US$19,222) for the GX grade, followed by the GXL and Urban, which start at AU$29,990 (US$21,358) and AU$32,990 (US$23,495), respectively.

Standard equipment on all models includes smart entry and start, climate control, infotainment system with smartphone integration, reversing camera and adaptive cruise control, as well as Toyota Connected Services, which feature Automatic Collision Notification, among others.

The mid-range GXL adds LED headlights, panoramic camera system and Blind Spot Monitor, whereas the Urban gets 18-inch alloy wheels (16-inch for the GX and GXL), a power tailgate with kick sensor, power driver’s seat and heated front seats.

In terms of powertrain configurations, customers will get the new 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine in the base variants, which produces 118 HP (120 PS / 88kW) and 145 Nm (107 lb-ft) of torque. It drives the front wheels through a CVT with a 10-speed manual sequential function.

The two-wheel drive hybrid versions pack the 1.5-liter three-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine with two electric motors for a combined output of 114 HP (116 PS / 85 kW), and an average consumption of 3.8 l/100 km (61.9 mpg US).

Finally, the electric AWD models add a third electric motor and split the torque between the two axles between 100 percent to the front and up to 40 percent to the front and 60 percent to the rear wheels.

The Yaris Cross will be covered by a five-year warranty, seven years for the engine and driveline and up to 10 years for the hybrid version’s battery. The first five services will set owners back AU$205 (US$146) each.
