A vehicle similar to the odd Mercedes-Maybach Vision Ultimate Luxury Concept may reach the production line, according to a new report.
The concept was unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show in 2018 and had a rather bizarre shape, combining the ride height and overall size of an SUV with the body style of a sedan. Fast forward to the fourth quarter of 2020 and it is claimed that a production model inspired by the concept could see the light of day.

Germany’s Handelsblatt reports that Daimler is looking to revitalize the medium and luxury class segment with a vehicle that combines the shape of an SUV with that of a sedan. The vehicle is apparently being referred to as a Sport Utility Limousine, or SUL, by Mercedes. It is claimed that the vehicle, that would be sold both in ICE and all-electric forms, might serve as a replacement to the A-Class sedan and could hit production as early as 2025.
If it’s true that the new vehicle will replace the A-Class sedan, it would be reasonable to assume it will be much smaller in scale than the original Vision Ultimate Luxury Concept. Interestingly, it is also understood Daimler could approve other SUL models for production, including one similar in size to the current E-Class.
The original Vision Ultimate Luxury Concept was designed as the ultimate technical showcase for what the Maybach brand could do. It featured a spacious four-seat cabin and used a quartet of electric motors combining to produce 750 hp.
