Regardless of the make, supercars are built to be driven, and this includes Ferrari’s new electrified model, the SF90 Stradale, which was tested by Chris Harris as part of Top Gear’s Season 29, Episode 1 that aired over the weekend.
Despite its electrified nature, it would be wrong to think of it as the successor of the LaFerrari, as it’s more like an F8 Tributo with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Its 7.9 kWh lithium-ion battery lets it move around for up to 15.5 miles (25 km) in complete silence – and with zero emissions, of course.

Two of the electric motors are mounted on the front axle, with a third one positioned between the turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 and the new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The internal combustion engine puts out 769 HP (780 PS / 574 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque, and with the electric motors, total output grows to 986 HP (1,000 PS / 735 kW).
The Prancing Horse’s new supercar takes just 2.5 seconds for the 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint and will eventually max out at 211 mph (340 km/h).
Now, as Harris notes, the SF90 Stradale will make you feel like a driving God with the safety systems on. The question is whether you should you ever turn them off and, more importantly, if doing so ruins the whole experience, making the Italian supercar totally unforgiving to anyone without the proper skills.
