If you own a 2020 Can-Am Ryker, you may want to stop driving it, because there is a chance that the front wheels could detach.

The issue affects 0.4 percent of the 6,866 trikes included in this safety campaign in North America, conducted by Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). All of them were made between August 16, 2019, and March 27, 2020.

In the description of the defect, the safety agency has noted that “the front wheels assembly may not have been performed properly during the pre-delivery preparation by dealers”. This includes the correct torque application and the installing of the red locking clip. “In some situations, this could result in a wheel loss, increasing the risk of a crash”, they added.

BRP is aware of a report concerning the loss of a front wheel on a Ryker, having been contacted by the NHTSA on September 14. This apparently led to a crash, with allegations of injuries to the rider. The company investigated the accident, and after further discussions with the NHTSA, they decided to issue the recall on October 4.

Owners of 2020 Rykers should hear from BRP within days, considering that the recall has begun on November 2. As for the fix, dealers will check the tightness of the front wheels and reinstall the red locking clips. Reimbursements will not be made, seen as how the vehicles are still covered by warranty and will be fixed free of charge.
