2021 GMC Canyon AT4 Off-Road Performance Edition Debuts With Extra Protection And Improved Capability

GMC introduced the 2021 Canyon AT4 in January, but the lineup is expanding thanks to a new Off-Road Performance Edition.

Designed to blend comfort with off-road prowess, the Canyon AT4 Off-Road Performance Edition builds on the standard model by adding a gloss black exhaust tip, carbon black AT4 badges, and unique 17-inch gloss black wheels wrapped in 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires.

The changes don’t stop there as the Off-Road Performance Edition features a suspension leveling kit and the removal of the front air dam. Thanks to these changes, the truck’s approach angle is improved by more than 35 percent to nearly 30 degrees.

Besides the improved approach angle, the truck has been equipped with tubular rock rails and heavy-duty aluminum skid plates that are 5/32 inch (4 mm) thick. The skid plates are located at the front and middle of the truck, where they protect the radiator, front differential, steering gear and oil pan. They are complimented by a transfer case shield that comes standard on the regular Canyon AT4.

Rounding out the highlights are a spray-in bedliner and heavy-duty floor mats.

GMC didn’t go into specifics, but the truck can presumably be equipped with a 3.6-liter V6 and a 2.8-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder. The petrol engine produces 308 hp (230 kW / 312 PS) and 275 lb-ft (373 Nm) of torque, while the diesel churns out 181 hp (135 kW / 184 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm).

Regardless of what’s under the hood, the Canyon AT4 Off-Road Performance Edition comes standard with an off-road focused suspension, four-wheel drive and an automatic locking rear differential.

The truck will be available to order later this year, but pricing remains a mystery. However, we can expect it to cost more than the standard Canyon AT4 which starts at $39,395 and climbs to $45,570 for the diesel variant.
