Porsche has been spotted testing the 2022 Macan, which is set to receive a second facelift and remain on sale alongside the upcoming Macan EV.
The German carmaker has confirmed for some time now that the 2023 battery-powered Macan will not replace the ICE model, with the latter to receive one more life extension. This will be the third facelift of the Porsche Macan, following the model’s update back in 2018.

So far, the test cars spotted by our spies don’t look that different from the current Macan, aside from bits of tape applied to the bumpers and in this case, a set of provisional secondary lights mounted on the rear.
Our previous scoop on the 2022 Porsche Macan facelift allowed us to take a peek inside the cabin, revealing to some extent the updates; these include a new center console that ditches the row of hard buttons for a touch-sensitive panel, like the one you’d find in a Cayenne or a Panamera.
The upcoming battery-powered Macan will be based on the EV-specific PPE architecture that’s co-developed with Audi, further separating it from the ICE-powered Macan, which rides on the Audi-sourced MLB platform.
Logic dictates that Porsche should at least make a few changes under the bonnet of the regular Macan as well, given that the model is currently not offered with any kind of electrification. After all, the Macan has been one of Porsche’s best-selling models, and giving it at least a mild-hybrid 48-volt system sounds like a no-brainer. The current Porsche Macan is offered with a range of turbocharged four- and six-cylinder engines.
The current pandemic has also brought significant delays to the development schedule of pretty much every carmaker; the facelifted Porsche Macan is no exception and we expect it to be revealed towards the end of 2021 as a 2022 model.
The purely electric Macan on the other hand will take a little longer, with production expected to start in late 2022. However, Porsche might preview its first electric SUV sometime next year.
