The 2022 Subaru BRZ was unveiled yesterday and while it doesn’t feature a turbocharged engine as many had hoped it would, it does promise to be a good update over the first-generation model.
Journalist reviews of the new sports car have yet to hit the web but this clip from Redline Reviews does provide us with a detailed look at the new model, while also showing some onboard footage from a passenger ride in the car.

The most important upgrade made to the new BRZ is the fitment of a naturally-aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 228 hp and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) of torque, a 15 per cent jump over the first-generation model. This engine can be coupled to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. All variants come standard with a limited-slip differential and rear-wheel drive.
During this onboard clip from the car, we’re provided with the chance to hear the new BRZ from the first time. It sounds quite nice, although it’s hard to judge from this video alone. Like the outgoing model, it appears to be very tail-happy.
A host of other key upgrades have been made to the 2022 BRZ. This includes the use of aluminum on the roof, front fenders, and hood. The chassis has also been reinforced and now offers 50 per cent greater torsional stiffness, thanks in particular to the new chassis mounting system, sub-frame architecture and other connection points.
