When Porsche decided to share a range of previously unseen design studies last night, we were very excited for this admittedly rare opportunity to see what’s behind the curtain over at Stuttgart. What we didn’t expect however is to have a first peek at what looks like the upcoming 2023 Macan EV.
Going through the gallery of the stunning 919 Street design study, you’ll see a clay model of an upcoming SUV that looks pretty Macan-sized to our eyes. Credit goes to our reader Lloyd Anthony D Peters, who pointed out the clay model in our 919 Street story.

The clay model itself appears to share the same design traits with a heavily camouflaged test car of the electric Macan we spied last month. The headlights are smaller and more rectangular than the current Macan, with the front fascia using just a small air intake low down in the bumper, which is what you’d expect from an all-electric vehicle.
The fact that Porsche has since cropped the image from its website to hide the clay model leads us to believe that this is indeed our first look at the 2023 Macan EV.
Porsche’s upcoming electric SUV is going to be based on the EV-specific PPE architecture, which has been co-developed with Audi. So far, we don’t have any information on the model’s electric powertrain, but Porsche has previously confirmed that they are testing a quad-motor setup for a future electric crossover.
Production of the electric Porsche Macan is expected to begin in late 2022, but the new battery-powered SUV might make its debut in 2021.
