New Hyundai Mistra Bows In China With Electric Variant That Can Travel 323 Miles

The coronavirus pandemic has cancelled numerous auto shows, but the Guangzhou Motor Show is underway and Hyundai used the event to introduce the new Mistra.

Designed specifically for the Chinese market, the redesigned Mistra is a stylish mid-size sedan which will be launched next year.

Featuring sleek styling, the sedan has a distinctive front fascia with a wide chrome grille that is flanked by LED lighting units. Further back, we can see flowing bodywork and chrome accents.

In terms of size, the Mistra measures 188.2 inches (4,780 mm) long, 71.5 inches (1,815 mm) wide and 57.5 inches (1,460 mm) tall with a wheelbase that spans 109.1 inches (2,770 mm). This makes the model slightly smaller than the Sonata, but Hyundai claims it has best-in-class interior space.

Speaking of the cabin, drivers will find a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a matching 12.3-inch infotainment system. Other highlights include a panoramic sunroof and an impressive assortment of driver assistance systems. The latter include forward collision avoidance assistance, highway driving assistance, navigation-based smart cruise control, rear cross traffic alert and a surround view monitor – just to name a few.

Under the hood, there’s an entry-level 1.8-liter engine that produces 141 hp (105 kW / 143 PS) and 129 lb-ft (176 Nm) of torque. Customers can also opt for a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine with 168 hp (125 kW / 170 PS) and 187 lb-ft (253 Nm) of torque.

Besides the petrol engines, there’s an electric variant which has a 56.5 kWh battery pack and a motor that develops 181 hp (135 kW / 184 PS) and 229 lb-ft (310 Nm) of torque. The model has a range of 323 miles (520 km) and can go from a 30-80% charge in as little as 40 minutes. However, a full charge takes 9.5 hours with “slow charging.”
