It’s not unusual for some interesting vehicles to pop up for auction at Bring A Trailer. However, this is unlike anything we’ve seen on the website before. It is, as the title states, an M4A1 Grizzly tank that is available in Los Angeles with a bill of sale.
The listing states that the M4A1 Grizzly is an adaptation of the Sherman medium tank that was built in Canada in late 1943. It features a cast, single-piece upper hull that’s welded to an armor-plated lower hull and is painted in a shade of ‘Olive Drab’. It is thought to be one of fewer than 20 operational M4A1 tanks in existence.

Powering the tank is a Continental-built 975 cubic-inch Wright Whirlwind radial engine that includes a single updraft carburetor. According to the seller, this engine was serviced by the previous owner and had an oil change. The carburetor was also rebuilt. Grunt from the engine is sent to the front-drive sprockets via a propshaft connected to a front-mounted five-speed manual transmission.
The turret of the tank can be easily rotated and includes a 75 mm main gun. There is also a .50 caliber machine gun mounted to the turret and a .30 caliber dummy gun that protrudes through the hull.
What exactly would someone do with a tank like this? That’s a very good question but there’s obviously a lot of interest in it as it has already attracted a highest bid of $325,000 with 10 days left in the auction.
