The Dacia Sandero has been advertised as being Britain’s cheapest new car for years, but what is its American equivalent? The 2021 Chevrolet Spark.
Available from $13,400, excluding destination, it is offered with a standard 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, reversing camera and 10 airbags in the LS variant, plus up to 27.2 cu-ft (770 liters) of maximum cargo room available when folding down the rear seats.

The Spark 1LT follows from $15,300, adding 15-inch alloy wheels, remote keyless entry, alarm, multi-function steering wheel, power windows and power locks. The Activ comes with an MSRP of $16,400, adding bespoke front and rear ends, exclusive rims, a raised suspension, roof rails and front seats wrapped in leatherette. Meanwhile, the 2LT rounds out the range, priced from $16,800. It features keyless entry and go, heated front seats, leather-wrapped 3-spoke steering wheel with silver accents and leatherette seat trim.
No matter which grade customers choose, they will have to settle for a tiny 1.4-liter DOHC inline-four engine, which produces 98 HP (99 PS / 73 kW) at 6,200 rpm and 94 lb-ft (127 Nm) of torque at 4,400 rpm. The engine is paired to a standard five-speed manual transmission or an optional CVT, returning an EPA-estimated 29 mpg (8.1 l/100 km) in the city when ordered with the stick shift or 30 mpg (7.8 l/100 km) with the CVT.
Don’t look for any novelties for the 2021 model year, save for two new metallic exterior paint finishes called Cayenne Orange and Mystic Blue, both of which are available as optional extras.
