Some may find neutral shades such as white, black, silver and grey a bit dull, but since they go with just about everything and do not affect a vehicle’s resale value, they are the most popular car colors in 2020 – in this order.

White clearly dominates the global chart, with 38 percent, followed by black with 19 percent and grey with 15 percent. Silver has become less popular, as it holds the fourth position with 9 percent.

Released by Axalta, a leading global supplier of liquid and power coatings, the analysis shows blue and red coming in fifth and sixth, with 7 and 5 percent respectively. The survey also shows that 3 and 2 percent of the vehicles made this year were finished in brown/beige and yellow/gold. Green holds 1 percent of the market share.

In North America, the most popular car colors are white (30%), black (19%), grey (19%) and silver (10%), according to Axalta, while in Europe, white and grey hold the two top spots, each with 25 percent, followed by black, blue and silver. In Asia, white holds 48 percent, black 18 percent and silver 8 percent. The most popular color by far in China is white, with 57 percent, followed by black and gray with 22 and 6 percent respectively.
