Audi was supplied with a weak brake pedal and, as a result, is now recalling 313 2020MY Q3s.
The problem comes down to the brake pedal that was potentially mis-welded by one of Audi’s sub-suppliers. Only some vehicles built over a six-week period between July and August, 2020, are affected.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the weld may not be strong enough to hold under emergency braking situations. That could lead the brake pedal plate, the part of the pedal that comes in contact with your foot, to snap off.

Although the lever arm of the brake pedal would still work, if the plate snapped, it could easily lead the driver’s foot to slip off the pedal, increasing the risk of a crash.
Audi dealers are expected to get in contact with owners starting December 31 and repairs are expected to begin in January. The solution will be to either fix the weld or replace the brake pedal completely.
Meanwhile, Audi’s sub-supplier has implemented a 100% check of parts before delivery and will install a camera-based monitoring system to ensure the welds are strong enough in the future.
