Earlier this year, FCA tapped Bill Murray to reprise his role as Phil Connors from Groundhog Day to promote the Jeep Gladiator.

Ford is now doing something similar as they’ve reunited Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo for a Christmas Vacation inspired commercial to highlight the Mustang Mach-E.

Set to air tonight, during the SNL Christmas Special on NBC, the ad has Chase and D’Angelo returning as Clark and Ellen Griswold. It recreates the film’s iconic lighting ceremony, where Clark has everyone gather outside to check out the thousands of lights he’s installed on the house.

Like in the film, the lights don’t work so Ellen goes inside. However, instead of flicking on a light switch and turning the lights on, they don’t get power until she plugs in a Mustang Mach-E. This draws everyone’s attention and they go to check out the electric pony car.

While the ad is a poor imitation of the original scene, Chase said “It’s great to be back for another Christmas with my on-screen family and its rotating assortment of kids – and I have Ford and Mustang Mach-E to thank for paying me to do it.”

His sentiments were echoed by D’Angelo who remarked, “My favorite side kick role is playing Ellen Griswold to Chevy’s Clark, my one and only Sparky. But this year, the brightest spark is the Mustang Mach-E in the driveway!”  She added, “Please don’t tell him I said that. I’m already in trouble for bringing a different set of kids every time we go on a vacation.”

As for the Mach-E, pricing starts at $42,895 before incentives. The crossover is available in a variety of configurations and offers an EPA-estimated range of up to 300 miles (383 km).
