Chris Harris has an enviable collection of cars and one of the most intriguing cars that he owns is a rusty old Citroen 2CV which is the subject of this latest clip posted up by Top Gear.

Harris has long been a fan of the 2CV and believes it is one of the most intriguing vehicles ever produced. In this clip, he decided to pit his old Citroen against another 2CV, one owned by veteran motoring journalist Andrew Frankel. Things don’t start particularly well.

Harris keeps his 2CV in a field and when preparing it for this film, discovered that it had a flat battery. Using the hand crank didn’t work so the race had to be postponed until Frankel could bring along his own 2CV to try to jump-start the one owned by Harris. You see, the 2CV has a six-volt battery and can only be jump-started by another vehicle with a six-volt battery. If you were to try and jump-start it with a modern car, you would fry the classic Citroen’s electronics.

With both cars ready to go, a series of drag races were held. Rather than heading to a drag strip, the races were held on a wet and muddy field, exactly the environment where the 2CV shines.

In the first race, Harris gets a far better launch off the line while Frankel encounters a healthy dose of wheelspin. However, as the speeds start to increase, Frankel’s 2CV begins to close the gap until he is forced to lift as the two approach a gate that is only wide enough for one of them.
