When the GMC Hummer EV was unveiled back in October, it took only 10 minutes for the automaker to secure 10,000 pre-orders for the Edition 1 model.
Thanks to the positive reception to the electric pickup truck, a GMC dealership that attended a recent GMC national dealer meeting told the Detroit Free Press that the company is “evaluating if they can build more.”

It is understood that approximately half of GMC’s 1,900 dealerships in the United States have agreed to invest up to $140,000 to sell the Hummer EV. GMC is requiring dealerships to have two 240-volt Level 2 charging stations and at least one 480-volt fast-charging stations to sell the Hummer. In addition, it requires dealerships have two 12,000 lbs service bay lifts, a 14-by-24 foot stall to store, and an 8,000 pound capacity forklift. Dealers must also pay for training to sell and service the vehicles.
Production of the Hummer EV will be handled by GM’s Factory Zero plant in Hamtramck, which will be updated to make various other electric vehicles as well. Prices for the flagship Hummer Edition 1, which will be the first variant to hit the market, start at $112,595. It is also the more powerful, as it has a trio of electric motors producing 1,000 hp and 11,500 lb-ft (15,592 Nm) of torque, and deliveries are tipped to start next year.
Other variants include the Hummer EV3X landing in the fall of 2022 for $99,995, the 2X costing $89,995 that’s expected in spring 2023, and the entry-level model arriving in spring 2024 and starting at $79,995.
