You could be excused for thinking the Porsche 993 from Gunther Werks is nothing more than a Singer-wannabe that’s only good for car events but not actually designed with on-track performance in mind. This video reveals just how well-rounded the car actually is.

Slotted beneath the gorgeous bodywork of the Porsche 993 Remastered by Gunther Werks is a 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated flat-six with 431 hp and 312 lb-ft (423 Nm). This engine is air-cooled and revs all the way to 8,100 rpm, producing an absolutely epic sound when driven to its limits.

To see just how capable the car is, Randy Pobst jumped behind the wheel and took the car for a lap around WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. It set a best time of 1:30.99, which is a truly remarkable time for a restomod like this.

To put that time into perspective, it is only just behind the 1:30.71 lap of a McLaren P1 and the 1:29.89 lap of the Porsche 918 Spyder which used to hold the unofficial production car lap record at the circuit. Clearly, Gunther Werks has produced something much more than a showpiece.

It’s not just the powerful engine that helps the 993 Remastered on the track. There are adjustable coilovers at all four corners and upgraded brakes to ensure the car can wipe off speed just as quickly as it gains it. The comprehensive use of carbon fiber also means the sports car tips the scales at just 2,500 lbs (1,133 kg).
