Mazda introduced the 2021 CX-30 2.5 Turbo earlier this year and now the company has confirmed it will cost a pretty penny.

Pricing starts at $29,900 which makes it a tough choice as the standard CX-30 begins at $21,900 and the larger CX-5 can be had for $25,270. Making matters even worse is the fact that the well-equipped CX-5 Carbon Edition Turbo starts at $30,660 which is a difference of just $760.

However, the CX-30 Turbo does have one advantage as it comes standard with all-wheel drive. The model also has a six-speed automatic transmission as well as a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that develops up to 250 hp (186 kW / 253 PS) and 320 lb-ft (433 Nm) of torque. However, that number drops to 227 hp (169 kW / 230 PS) and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) when you’re not filling up with pricey premium fuel.

In the styling department, the CX-30 Turbo is distinguished by gloss black accents and 18-inch alloy with a black finish. The model also comes equipped with LED lighting units, rain-sensing wipers and aluminum roof rails.

Moving into the cabin, there’s heated leatherette front seats and an 8.8-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Buyers will also find a dual-zone automatic climate control system, an eight-speaker audio system and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Rounding out the highlights are a power moonroof, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror and a passive entry system.

The crossover comes equipped with an assortment of driver assistance systems including Mazda Radar Cruise Control with stop and go, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning with Lane-Keep Assist, Driver Attention Alert and High Beam Control.

Customers looking for more luxury can opt for a premium package which costs $2,400. It adds leather seats, a heated steering wheel and a 12-speaker Bose audio system. Other niceties include a power liftgate, a head-up display and SiriusXM satellite radio. There’s also traffic sign recognition technology, an adaptive front-lighting system and LED lighting units with “signature illumination.”

Shoppers can also opt for a premium plus package which puts the model into Lexus UX territory as it costs $33,900.  However, it’s light on luxury as the package adds an auto-dimming driver’s side mirror, Homelink, front / rear parking sensors and a 360° View Monitor. The range-topping variant also boasts Rear Cross-Traffic Braking and Traffic Jam Assist.
